Back (again)

It's been quite a awhile, and lots has happened since my last post.

A concerted effort has been put on order. I'm awaiting its arrival, and we'll see what happens then.

Here's a photo I took a few weeks ago.

Back!

I'm back!
Back on the blog, back on Twitter, back in touch with morality, reality and anything else that gets your feet back on the ground. Today I'm back!

...Well apparently I wasn't entirely back on my blog on Saturday, as I didn't finish writing this entry.

I joined Twitter over 2 1/2 years ago, tweeted twice, didn't get-it, suddenly felt the way I knew my Dad felt when he didn't understand something I was into - kicked Twitter to the curb.

This weekend, a good friend, and avid blogger/tweeter Nicole, helped get me back into Twitter, and four days later, I still don't entirely get-it, but I'm seeing some potential. You can follow me at: @scullmantt

Two weeks ago I found new appreciation for everything around me, through a harrowing experience with flash-flooding that left a large area of west Trinidad marked as a disaster zone.

The blog is back...I'm back...and for now I'm off...off to an Italian Cooking class. Photos and story will follow later. :)

Going under (the line)

About a year ago, some friends asked me to join them on a project. I joined them and for 5 days we all restricted our food budgets to $10TT ($1.50USD) per day. Live Below the Line is an initiative of the Global Poverty Project to increase awareness of the fact that 1.4 billion people today live on $1.50USD per day.

Nothing prepared us for what we were about to learn from this experience. We walked away five days later with the ability to relate to the physical and psychological effects of life on a very limited budget, much-improved shopping and meal-planning skills, as well as a supportive bond among the team members.

The time has come again to Live Below the Line, and our team The Power of One have taken on the challenge to increase awareness and raise funds for this cause.

We've been shopping for most items for the week, rice, split peas, saltfish, corned beef, dried red beans, blackeyed peas, potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, flour, salt, seasonings and more. With a year of this challenge under our belts, we were able to make much more informed decisions. We're actually looking forward to learning from this year's challenge, and hope you can help too.

You can support our efforts by visiting This Link, and clicking on the "Donate" button.

Stay tuned this week for more updates here, and on Sarita's blog.

The Red Room

A few weeks ago we photographed Sieyon and Sims at Hakka.
We like new concepts for engagement shoots, and this one allowed us to use some different techniques for low-light.

The couple love their photos, and soon we photograph their wedding :)

End of days?

The photo below (probably one of the last to be taken from our planet intact) was taken with my iPhone while re-learning life lesson #29 (most learn this at the age of 3).

Life lesson 29 states that regardless of how cool one's friends say it looks, one must not run from the shaded console of their bedroom to the great outdoors to see what phenomena the sun is exhibiting today, for thou shalt see nothing.

The photo was taken through a pair of cheap, strange, polarised sunglasses, because the lil daylight-wielding star above was too bright for even my mighty iPhone.

This blogpost incidentally is the first from my mighty iPhone :D

More sharing (another tutorial)

Here's another tutorial on exposure based on a recent shoot:

Really hope these come in useful to someone. :)

Sharing is caring

Whenever I can, I share what I know with others. Whether they're professional or up and coming photographers, I love to help others in this way, as it even helps me to better understand what I may already think I know.

Some months ago, I put together the following tutorial on gobos:

Hope it can come in handy to someone. :)
